STAR TABLE DECORATION – FREE PATTERN

This christmas star will make a wonderful table decoration. It’s thick so can be used under hot serving dishes, but not on dished straight from the stove/oven.

Materials

Aran/Worsted/10 ply weight yarn. I used:

Lily Sugar & Cream in Mistletoe Ombre, 2 balls
Drops Paris White, 1 ball

Crochet hook: 4.5mm/G 6-7/size 7

Notes.

The diamond shapes are worked back and forth = turn work at the end of each round.

To create the diamond shape: First stitches are increased in the beginning of each round up to 13 sts, and then stitches are decreased in the beginning of each round back to one st.

Leave a long tail at one end of each diamond shape for sewing the star together.

Pattern for Diamond shape:

Round 1. Ch-2, 2dc in 2nd chain from the hook. (2 sts)
Round 2. Ch1, 2dc in first stitch, 1 dc and next stitch. (3 sts)
Round 3. Ch1, 2dc in first stitch, 1 dc in each of the following 2 sts. (4 sts)

Round 4-12. Work 9 more rounds like this with ch1, 2dc in the first st, then 1 dc in the rest of the stitches in the round (1 st increase per round). Round 12 = 13 sts.

Round 13. Ch1, dc2tog, 1 dc in each stitch till the end of round (12 sts).
Round 14. Ch1, dc2tog, 1 dc in each stitch till the end of round (11 sts).
Round 15-22. Work 8 more round like this with ch1, dc2tog, then 1 dc in the rest of the stitches in the round (1 degrease per round). Round 22 = 2 sts
Round 23. Ch1, dc2tog, cut yarn and pull through the loop. Weave in the shorter tail.

Make 12 diamond shapes.

Use 6 diamonds each to make 2 stars. Sew the diamond shapes together till half way.

Weave in all ends, and block or steam the stars to make them easier to crochet together.

Crochet stars together along the edges with dc stitches. Crochet 11-12 dc stitches along each edge, with 3dc in the stitch that form each of the tips of the star.

Weave in ends.
